In 1994, Al Gore stated:
“How do we create a nationwide network of information superhighways? Obviously, the private sector is going to do it, but the Federal government can catalyze and accelerate the process.”
The US Government indeed funded the National Science Foundation (NSF) to build an “information superhighway”.
The United States Federal Government invested in the growth of the Arpanet into the early version of the Internet. Without the government’s efforts, perhaps we wouldn’t have witnessed the rapid evolution of the Internet as we know it.
A few years later, the NSF decided that the commercial world should be the main building blocks for the Internet which led to the birth of the Internet as we use it today.
